Understanding the File Types: McPack vs. Zip

Add-Ons typically come in two formats, and the installation method depends on which one you have:

  • .mcpack / .mcaddon: This is the easy, one-tap install format. Minecraft handles everything for you.
  • .zip: This format requires you to manually copy the files into the correct Minecraft folder. It's a bit more hands-on but still very simple.

Method 1: The One-Tap Install (.mcpack & .mcaddon)

This is the simplest way to get started. If your downloaded Add-On ends in .mcpack or .mcaddon, follow these steps.

Step 1: After downloading the file, open your Android File Manager and navigate to your "Downloads" folder.

Step 2: Tap on the .mcpack or .mcaddon file. Your device will ask which app to use; select "Minecraft."

Step 3: Minecraft will launch automatically and you'll see a "Import Started" message at the top of the screen. Wait for it to say "Successfully imported."

Method 2: The Manual Install (.zip)

Step 3: Find the Minecraft Directory. Navigate to this path in your file manager: Internal Storage > Android > data > com.mojang.minecraftpe > files > games > com.mojang.

Step 4: Paste it In. Inside this folder, you will see two important sub-folders: behavior_packs and resource_packs. Paste your copied folder into the correct one. If it's a texture or sound pack, use `resource_packs`. If it changes mob behavior or adds new items, use `behavior_packs`.

Activating the Add-On In Your World
