You’ve spent countless hours crafting the perfect world, building magnificent structures, and gathering rare resources. But what happens when you get a new phone or want to play on your PC? Don’t let your masterpiece be trapped on one device! This guide will show you exactly how to find, back up, and transfer your Minecraft worlds safely.
Whether you're moving from an old Android to a new one, or want to play your mobile world on your PC using an emulator, the process is simple once you know where to look. This method works for the official game and our Minecraft MOD APK.
The Golden Rule: Always Back Up First!
Before you move, copy, or change anything, make a backup copy of your world folder. This is your safety net. If anything goes wrong during the transfer, you'll have a secure copy of your world to restore from.
Step 1: Finding Your World Files on Android
Your Minecraft worlds are saved in a specific folder on your device's internal storage. To get to them, you’ll need a file manager app. Most Android phones come with one pre-installed (often called "Files" or "My Files").
Navigate to the following directory path:
Inside the `minecraftWorlds` folder, you'll see a collection of oddly named folders. Each of these is one of your saved worlds. The folder icon is often a preview of the world, making it easier to identify which is which.
Step 2: Choosing Your Transfer Method
Once you've found the world folder you want to transfer, you have two main methods to move it:
Method A: USB Cable
The most direct method. Connect your Android device to your PC with a USB cable. Your phone will appear as a drive on your computer, allowing you to drag and drop the world folder directly.
Method B: Cloud Storage
Perfect for transferring between mobile devices. Upload the world folder from your old phone to Google Drive or Dropbox, then download it onto the new device.
Step 3: The Transfer Process
Let's walk through the exact steps for moving a world from your Android phone to your PC.
Connect Your Phone
Plug your Android device into your PC using a USB cable. On your phone, you may need to pull down the notification shade and change the USB mode from 'Charging' to 'File Transfer' or 'MTP'.
Copy the World Folder
On your PC, open File Explorer and find your phone listed as a device. Navigate to the minecraftWorlds
folder path mentioned earlier. Find the world you want to transfer, right-click it, and select 'Copy'. Paste it onto your PC's desktop for easy access.
Paste it to Your PC
If you're moving to the PC version of Minecraft (Bedrock Edition), you need to find its save folder. Press Windows Key + R, type %localappdata%
, and hit Enter. From there, navigate to Packages > Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe > LocalState > games > com.mojang > minecraftWorlds
. Paste your world folder here.
Launch and Verify
That's it! Launch Minecraft on your PC. Your transferred world should now appear in your list of saved worlds, ready to play. For more help, check our troubleshooting guide.
The process is nearly identical for moving between two Android devices using cloud storage. Just copy from the `minecraftWorlds` folder on the old device and paste into the `minecraftWorlds` folder on the new one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I transfer a world from Bedrock to Java?
It is possible, but it requires third-party converter tools like Chunker or Amulet Editor. These tools can convert the world format, but some data, like player inventories or redstone contraptions, may not transfer perfectly. It's an advanced process recommended for experienced users.
What about Minecraft Realms?
Realms is Mojang's official subscription service and the easiest way to have a world accessible on any device. You can upload a world to a Realm from one device (like your phone) and then download it from the Realm onto another device (like your console or PC). This is the simplest but is a paid service.
Why can't I see the 'data' folder on my Android device?
Starting with Android 11, Google restricted access to the `/Android/data` directory for security reasons. Some default file managers can no longer see its contents. If you run into this, you may need to use a third-party file manager app from the Play Store (like "Files by Google" or "Solid Explorer") that has been granted permission to access these files.
